Day 1: Cybersecurity, Economics, New Mexico Updates, and More

Day one highlights New Mexico specific hot topics. Presentations include updates from the New Mexico Office of the State Auditor and the New Mexico Public Accountancy Board as well as topics such as Cybersecurity, Recruitment and Retention Strategies, and a panel on planning process perspectives.

Day 2: What’s Happening in Government Auditing

The professional standards around auditing governmental entities continues to evolve. This course will look at the changes happening at the AICPA. We’ll review the audit standards that have been issued related to the new auditor’s report, materiality, other information, communication, as well as standards to be issued in the near future including compliance reporting, estimates and audit evidence. We’ll then look at the activity of PEEC and the major changes in the areas of hosting, leases, information systems and government affiliates and the impact on independence. We’ll then provide a brief update on changes happening in the Uniform Guidance and Yellow Book including proposed changes to Single Audits. In the afternoon, we’ll switch gears and focus on common audit deficiencies for GAAS, GAGAS and Uniform Guidance audits. We will utilize actual MFCs from the State of New Mexico!

Day 3: What’s Going on in Governmental Financial Reporting & Ethics in Accounting

Governmental accounting is going through many changes. We’ll review all the standards issued by the GASB including multiple case studies. We’ll also review the major projects that GASB has been focusing on and that will lead to significant change. We’ll then switch gears after lunch and look at common errors found in governmental reporting. This presentation will also include two hours of ethics credit.
